Letter: Follow-up to Public Forum set for May 15

To the editor:

During a point of personal privilege at the April 28 Newburyport City Council meeting, Ward 3 Councilor Karen Kelley informed the community about the follow-up to the Annual Public Forum, an event which offers citizens the opportunity to consult with city representatives and neighbors about community-related issues and make recommendations regarding local government.

The corollary conference is scheduled for May 15 at Newburyport City Hall Auditorium, from 7 to 9 p.m., and will focus on common concerns that emerged during the forum's ward discussions. The conversation will progress from identifying issues to initiating ideas. In his corresponding remarks, Councilor-at-large John W. Pramberg called this is a "natural second step" to gather momentum and encourage "follow-through" on issues of importance.

Councilor Kelley made reference to the forum's ward recordings which had been distributed to City Council at the April 14 City Council meeting. While in transition to the new city Web site, these transcribed recordings and related information can be reviewed online at www.comity.org. This material will soon be found on the document processing system accessible via the city Web site; printed transcripts are also available at the City Clerk's office. Please submit inquiries, comments or suggestions to forum@cityofnewburyport.com.
